If you are looking for a great, fun evening out this weekend, you should check out the Afterbirth Season Finale. If you haven’t already heard, Afterbirth is a live storytelling evening conceived by stand up comic Dani Klein. Each show features well-known writers and actors performing their own parenting stories. The show has been playing to sold out audiences for 6 years in LA. I am reading the anthology, Afterbirth, a collection of pieces that were performed live in past Afterbirth performances, which was recently published by St Martin’s Press. It’s true, you would NOT find these stories in a parenting magazine; they are far too honest and hilarious – which makes them so much fun to read. I know the live show will be terrific. Plus, M Bar is a cool and intimate venue for a show, and a date night. So call your sitter, and make a reservation.

SATURDAY NIGHT JUNE 26th

M Bar in Hollywood

1253 Vine Street

(323) 856-0036

Doors open at 7, show starts at 8. $15 with dinner reservation, $20 at the door. $10 food minimum.

Saturday night’s performers are:

Mike Sikowitz, (exec producer “Rules of Engagement”)

Rick Marin, (“Lipstick Jungle”)

director Jennifer Lynch,

novelists Peter Birkenhead (“Gonville”)

Christopher Noxon (“Rejuvenile”)

Rebecca Woolf (girlsgonechild.net),

Steven Craag (exec producer “Madtv”)

and some surprise guests.

It’s hard to believe summer is right around the corner. With school out the question may arise what am I going to do with the kids all day? I love lazy mornings not having to rush out the door to school, but some structure to the summer days does help everyone’s sanity. My kids love [...]

If you haven’t been to the Peterson Automotive Museum in a while you are in for a treat. My son and I were there yesterday and it was a delight to see his face light up when he ran through the exhibits of old cars, new cars, race cars, toy cars and cars from movies. Mach [...]

Tinlark Gallery Hollywood – 3rd Anniversary Show: Sat January 23rd 6-9pm

January 19, 2010 Play

When I think of going to art openings, I think of my former pre-kid life. I’d walk through SoHo and pop into a gallery, have a glass of wine, and become inspired by an emerging artist’s new work. Then I moved to LA, had my kids, and the most frequent art I gaze at is [...]

December 29, 2009 Play

At my house, we’ve recovered from Christmas, (barely) and are enjoying some cozy days at home with the kids, but we’re also starting to miss the routine of school.  A chorus of, “What are we doing today?”  starts at about 7am. Grandma and Grandpa are still here, so we went to The Norton Simon Museum [...]
