Lemonade on Beverly, the perfect lunch spot

by leeroseemery on April 15, 2010

lemonade-menuLemonade is a lunch spot I could imagine eating at every day. Lemonade offers a multitude of different salads of the most interesting combinations. I don’t mean green salads, they are much more complex than that, and also serve an array of proteins: ahi tuna, buttermilk chicken, skirt steak, salmon, as well as stews and sandwiches. The atmosphere is casual and easy, they market themselves as “part lemonade stand, part grade school cafeteria,” which is what it feels like – with better food. Lemonade’s food is delicious, inexpensive and healthy. For a hearty lunch you can select three scoops of salad for $10.50, and you may even have them split up the scoops and be able to have six small portions of their delicious mixes. You can eat there or take it home. They also carry some lovely mini cupcakes for a dollar each and other tasty baked goods. The lemonade is out of this world: cucumber mint, watermelon strawberry, ginger peach, or blueberry. I took my daughter one day too, and she loved the place, and even ate a few different vegetable salads, which was shocking. (They also have a gooey mac and cheese.)

img_0753 Treat yourself, your family, or grab some Mommy friends and make a date. Lemonade is a great concept for a quick easy dining spot. The Beverly location is the perfect middle ground for the meeting of Westside/Eastside friends, (although they have a one in Venice and also Downtown.) You may see me there!

5I’m sure you’ve been baking for the past few days, and decorating eggs. But if not, Lark Cake Shop in Silver Lake has some beautiful Easter cookies to share with your friends and family. If you’re going to an egg hunt these would be the perfect item to bring along. If you aren’t familiar with Lark Cake Shop, you should stop by. Their cakes are not only delicious but gorgeous and have sophisticated designs. Their cupcakes are also scrumptious. EASTER EGG HUNT TIP:

If you are worried about your kids having too much candy tomorrow, (I’d rather my kids have home made cookies than all those little jelly beans and chocolates) you can always put pennies or little toys in the plastic eggs.

The Waffle: Hollywood

by leeroseemery on March 2, 2010

img_3036I love going out to breakfast with my family. It is a time where morning seems relaxing and we really enjoy each other’s company. Plus, there is no arguing about food as my kids really like breakfast. There’s a new kid friendly diner in Hollywood called, The Waffle, guess what their specialty is? The waffles are delicious, light and fluffy. They also feature a great kids’ menu, including mini waffles, or eggs for half price. The food is diner/healthy and organic whenever possible. Their kids’ menu also has some great lunch or dinner favorites, mac and cheese, burgers, and grilled cheese sandwiches for five bucks. Isn’t it always a bit depressing buying your child a ten-dollar sandwich somewhere and then they only take two bites?  So the Waffle is a deal. Inside has a sleek urban feel, and if it is a nice day, there’s a large patio of outside tables. Potentially,  the kids could even toddle around as you finfish your latte in the sun. Try it, take the family out to breakfast, you’ll have a great time, and, best of all, you won’t have a sink full of dishes to wash afterwards.

I know that organic food is better for my family.  But it also tends to be more expensive. In this economy where people are looking for ways to save what may be helpful is to look at the following list of the “dirty dozen.” The following foods tend to have far more pesticides than the [...]

John Kelly Chocolates, Los Angeles

February 12, 2010 Eat

If your sweetheart has a sweet tooth, or is a chocolate lover, give them a decadent Valentine’s Day by bringing them a box of John Kelly handmade chocolate truffle fudge. It’s called chocolate truffle fudge because the consistency is creamier than regular truffles which taste rich, but are sometimes a little dry. John Kelly’s truffles are [...]

Who doesn’t love good old home made brownies? My kids would, if I ever made them. But how convenient that I don’t have to. Lily LaBonge has just opened a browine store. A former television producer, Lily always gave brownies as gifts and now she is baking brownies as a business. The brownies are out [...]

The perfect snacks to go – Kind, Z, and Lara Bars

September 21, 2009 Eat

These nifty bars have become a staple in my pantry, my car, my purse, and the kids’ lunches. Many healthy bars taste well, just too darn healthy and the kids (and I) don’t like them. Or the ones the kids do like are loaded with sugar and are short on protein, which is the opposite [...]

Loteria Grill Hollywood

August 20, 2009 Eat

You probably have been to the Loteria Restaurant in the third Street Farmer’s Market. Mexican food is one of the cuisines that most kids like: cheese and chicken quesadillas, rice and beans ,and of course, a basket of tortilla chips. My family has loved the Farmer’s Market café for years, but now Loteria has opened [...]
