I love giving books as gifts. Kids today have so many toys and clothes and well. let’s face it junk. But a book is something that they can read and re-read and share with their whole family. Some of my kids’ favorites are “A Very Marley Christmas,” by John Grogan and Ian Falconer’s new Olivia book, “Olivia Helps with Christmas.” Both are slightly off beat, Marley is the mischievous yellow lab that gets into trouble with everything: Christmas lights, decorations, a tug of war with the Christmas tree, and finally dances in the snow.

In “Olivia Helps with Christmas,” we see Olivia and her family prepare for Santa’s arrival, with Ian Falconer’s usual sense of humor, and adorable illustrations.

One Christmas classic that I remember from my childhood is: The Sweet Smell of Christmas, a scented scratch and sniff book, by Patricia M Scarry.

A silly board book that toddlers love is: The Twelve Dogs of Christmas, written by a seven year old, Emma Kragen and Sharon Collins.
Buy them from Amazon, or support your local bookstore – especially if they have a children’s story hour that your kids have benefited from. I love Chevaliers on Larchmont Blvd.

My kids love the Olivia books. I agree that we should try to support our local bookstores like Chevalier’s on Larchmont. Happy Holidays! Love this blog:)
