Babycakes LA, a vegan bakery for the allergy challenged, now in Larchmont

Allergies are in the rise. Many of my kids’ pals, and also some of the moms I know, including yours truly, have food sensitivities. Some of us may have them and not even know we do, but that’s a blog for another day. So, what’s an LACityMom or child to do when she has a cupcake craving and shouldn’t really have dairy or sugar? Head over  to Babycakes Bakery on Larchmont Boulevard. Babycakes is a bakery for the allergic. White sugar is not found in their products, and they omit  wheat, gluten, dairy, casein and eggs from many of their creations, and all the products are organic. While you might think that will not bode well on the tasty meter, everything I have tried there is actually quite delicious! The red velvet cupcakes, banana bread, scones and sweet rolls taste as if they are loaded with toxic chemicals and things that are bad for you. It is so wonderful.

Bring some healthy but still yummy treats home or surprise an allergic little sugar deprived friend. (“Honey, that is for you, your friends brought it. It’s dairy free, and it doesn’t taste like chalk!”)
