Maya Soetoro-Ng’s Ladder to the Moon picture book & events in LA

by Lee Rose Emery

I just read a lovely, whimsical children’s picture book, called, Ladder to the Moon, by Maya Soetoro-ng, who happens to be President Obama’s sister. The book is a spiritual tale of a young girl who asks her mother what her grandmother was like. “She was like the moon,” her mother replied. “Full, soft and curious. Your grandma would wrap her arms around the world if she could.” That night the grandmother, climbing down from a ladder from the moon, visits her granddaughter and together they embark on a beautiful fantastical journey of love and healing. There are so few books for kids that have a spiritual element to them, I was delighted to read Ladder to the Moon to my children. I felt the magical elements fueled their imagination, and left them with a lovely message about the power of love and the connectedness of all people. Maya has two upcoming Ladder to the Moon events in LA next week. Information is below.
