SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills – an urban Mommy escape

by Lee Rose Emery

Oh to be a young Hollywood Hipster. You can actually. That is the beauty of living in a big city. Okay, maybe you don’t feel quite like your pre-baby hipster self, and sorry to say…you may NEVER feel that way, but as your kids start to become more independent you will start to feel like yourself again. In the meantime how about some time out for yourself or with some friends at a fabulous luxurious LA hotel. Some fellow Mommy Bloggers and I were invited to the SLS Hotel on La Cienega last week, and I am so glad I went. I’ve driven by the hotel a million times, but never stepped foot in it. It felt like I was in another world: a world of hip stylish urban decadence. And I mean that in the best possible way. A world of adults without small children. A world designed by the ultra cool Philippe Starck where people look chic and have good hair cuts, and don’t look like tired parents.

(Pictured here is the private dining room.)

I had a chance to see the entire hotel. I tried out some spa treatments in their ultra posh Ceil Spa. I had a snack on the rooftop terrace. (For a minute there I felt like I was in an episode of Entourage – again I mean that in the best way.) The food was so delicious and exotic. Then we had a Hip High Tea in the private dining room, which is a lovely spot for a baby shower or any special intimate event.  I met the head bartender mix-ologist who made us the most fantastic gimlets. (A little sad that I had to drive carpool shortly afterwards so could only have a sip of that.)

This was the Tea Tray. A modern twist on classic tea sandwiches. The SLS Hotel also offers a Mommy and Me Tea, which I am dying to take my daughter to. The tea menu sported a smorgasbord of delicacies, each one more beautiful and tastier than the next.

As you can see, the whole SLS experience was transporting, and such a great reminder that you don’t need to travel far to feel like you are getting away from it all.
